The Mabo Centre Centre for Native Title Anthropology

Thank you

Thank you to everyone who joined us in-person and online for the panel discussion Deciding Loss: The McArthur River Compensation Claim.

This discussion was presented by the Centre for Native Title Anthropology in partnership with the Mabo Centre, and comes at a critical time for our legal system with the McArthur River judgment challenging us to re-examine how cultural loss is assessed, and consider the structure of future of native title compensation.

We are grateful to our panellists Sturt Glacken SC, Emeritus Professor David Trigger, Professor Matthew Storey, and Acting Senior Judicial Registrar for Native Title Laurelea McGregor for sharing their time, knowledge, and expertise for the discussion on this landmark judgment.

Thanks also to Professor Rodney Carter for his contributions, and to panel moderator Associate Professor Richard Martin.
